Montella: “The Sud scored the winner – let’s keep improving”

Vincenzo Montella has thanked the fans after Sampdoria beat Lazio 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to all but assure their Serie A status for next season.

“The Sud scored the goal to make it 2-1. The Samp fans scored it. We’re basically safe now so we can relax a bit. There’s been lots of tension in recent months because the results haven’t been coming, but now that’s all behind us,” said Montella.

“It was a strange match, not tactically perfect by any means, but the team showed their personality and wanted to get the three points at all costs. Our remaining three matches can play a big part in helping us improve further and have a look at some of the players who have had less playing time,” continued the Sampdoria boss.

“This win is for the president and little Oscar, but it’s also for our fans and two very dear friends of mine, Vincenzo and Romana, who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary,” added Montella.
