Viviano: “The penalty changed the game. I’m repaying the fans”

Emiliano Viviano cut a satisfied figure as he spoke to the press after his incredible performance against Lazio on Sunday.

“I’m pleased,” began the Samp goalie. “We would have been behind again had I not saved the penalty and that would have been a big problem. It shouldn’t have been this tough for us – we’re not the kind of team that should be getting 40 points. Let’s finish as best we can and focus on next year.”

Viviano also had a special word for the fans: “I always try to give my all for the Gradinata, to repay the warmth they show me every weekend. It gives me goosebumps to hear them sing my name all together like that. I think it’s important to really care about a club.”

Asked about his chances of making it onto the plane for this summer’s European Championships, Viviano replied: “I’ve already booked my holidays but I’m ready to cancel in a second. I feel like I’m in the hunt for it and I’ll do everything I can to give Conte a decision to make in the next few games. And let’s not forget we have a derby to win!”
