Throwback: When Maxi Lopez won the derby

Former Sampdoria striker Maxi Lopez is celebrating his 35th birthday today.

The Argentine had two spells at Samp. His Blucerchiati career got off to a great start in 2012/13 as he scored four goals in the first few months before his form waned towards the latter end of the campaign.

He rejoined the club in the 2014 January transfer window and etched his name into derby history by notching the winner in the 108th Derby della Lanterna – his only goal during his second stint at Doria but enough to earn him a place is the fans’ hearts.
