Primavera: Samp draw 1-1 with Lazio

The Sampdoria Primavera picked up their first point of the season on Sunday after playing out a 1-1 draw with Lazio in Bogliasco, in what was a tough-fought encounter with plenty of goal-scoring chances.

In the first half the home side went close through Jamie Yayi Mpie, who latched onto a nice through ball before firing a diagonal effort from inside the box, forcing Alessio Furlanetto into a save. The rebound broke kindly to Emanuel Ercolano, whose close-range header was also saved by the Lazio keeper.

At the other end, the visiting team went closest through Florent Shehu who arrived into the box to divert a clever cutback towards the corner, only to see his low left-foot effort hit the inside of the post before rolling across the goal-line and behind. Samp escaped the danger and went into the half-time break still level at 0-0.

At the start of the second period, Doria looked determined to break the deadlock and the opening goal came just before the hour mark. Nik Prelec sent a low cross into the box from the left which was met by Yayi Mpie. The latter miscued his finish but the ball deflected off Angelo Ndrecka and into the net to give Samp a 1-0 advantage. With less than 10 minutes to play, Lazio hauled themselves level however. Luigi Aquino was adjudged by the referee to have hand-balled in the area and the resulting spot kick was dispatched by Raúl Moro.

The Doria Primavera side are back in action on Wednesday, when they welcome Torino in the second round of the Primavera TIM Cup (kick off at 15:00 CEST).
