Sampdoria mourn the passing of former striker Ermanno Cristin

Ermanno Cristin – the former Doria striker, who spent nine years with the club – has died at the age of 74 after a long illness.

Cristin represented the club in the 1960s and 1970s, winning the hearts of the Doria fans with his performances and scoring some crucial goals in the club’s history, including several that meant the difference between relegation and salvation for Samp.

“I spent nine unforgettable years in Genoa and I will carry my love for Sampdoria with me to my grave,” said Cristin in 2011 at an event for Blucerchiati fans – people who, even decades after he hung up his boots, still harboured a deep affection for him.

Humble, spontaneous, generous – that was Cristin through and through. He was one of us and will remain so forever.
