Celebrating derby goal with the fans a ‘unique experience’, says Quagliarella

Fabio Quagliarella continued his march at the top of the Serie A scoring chart on Sunday, scoring the second goal in Sampdoria’s 2-0 win over cross-town rivals Genoa.

Speaking after the match he said: “An easy derby match isn’t something I’ve ever experienced. We played well and were ruthless enough to win. With a game like this, getting a goal early changes everything.

“I felt the pressure when taking that penalty. It was the derby, in front of the South Stand. There was a mix of emotions there but I was just focused on being clinical and luckily it went in. Being able to celebrate with the fans is a unique experience.”

Finally, as regards the team’s push for European football next year, he added: “We need to keep on the tails of those ahead of us, trying not to slip up, as we have done previously.”
