Genoa in our hearts: Serie A mourns the victims of the Morandi Bridge collapse

Every player and match official involved in the upcoming round of Serie A fixtures will wear special shirts bearing the inscription ‘Genoa in our hearts’ in tribute to the victims of the Morandi Bridge collapse.

“As a token of our support and solidarity with the victims of the tragedy in Genoa,” announced the president of Lega Serie A Gaetano Micciche, “the league will set up a foundation to help those in need, in accordance with the city’s authorities. To further demonstrate our support and to dedicate our thoughts to the victims of the Ponte Morandi and their families, the players and officials will walk out for the second round of league fixtures wearing a commemorative t-shirt to express how the hearts of everyone have gone out to Genoa.”

“On behalf of the city of Genoa, wounded but ready to rise up again and respond with the pride that has forever set it apart, I express my thanks for this initiative,” added the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci. “It means so much and it moves us to feel such solidarity coming from every angle. It’s comforting and helps us to move forward with courage and determination. Moreover, it’s good for the soul of this city.”

Finally, the President of the Region of Liguria Giovanni Toti, who is also the Deputy Commissioner for the Emergency, gave his thoughts on the initiative.

“It’s a clear sign of the support from the world of football to Genoa, which remains one of the greatest footballing destinations on the planet. We’re pleased that all the players will be bearers of a message of hope and rebirth for our city. Genoa is in all our hearts.”
