Kownacki scores with his first touch: “I really took my chance”

Dawid Kownacki shrugged off comparisions with both Patrik Schick and Robert Lewandowski on Saturday evening.

“I want to be myself and take my chances when they come along,” said the Polish striker, 20. “I knew it was a good opportunity today. I came on and with my first touch I made the most of the keeper’s mistake and scored. I’m delighted even though the team is what matters most of course.”

Two of Samp’s three-man Polish contingent found the net against Crotone though Kownacki had sympathy for his compatriot at full-back. “Karol Linetty is a very good player and now operates fairly close to the opposition goal. Bartosz Bereszynski however plays further back and it’s tough to get into goalscoring positions from there. He’s a good defender and maybe it will be his turn next time,” said the Poland Under-21 captain.

Meanwhile, Sampdoria are producing consistent results and performances. “I’ve seen that Serie A is difficult,” concluded Kownacki. “We’ve done well in our first nine games though. We have good players in our squad and this is just the start. We’re flying under the radar.”
