Sampdoria U19s’ unbeaten run ends in Palermo

Sampdoria U19s missed the opportunity to take a big step towards securing their top-flight survival as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Palermo.

The two sides went into the game level on 30 points – two points clear of the bottom four -knowing victory would put them in a strong position with just three games left to play but it was the hosts who appeared more determined from the off.

Doria keeper Krapikas was called into action several times in the opening minutes before Angileri broke the deadlock for Palermo from a corner 36 minutes in – the first goal conceded by the Blucerchiati in 404 minutes.

Samp upped their game after the restarted and fashioned several chances to level the scores but their finishing wasn’t on point.

Palermo held on to record a fourth consecutive win and end Doria’s five-match unbeaten run. Simone Pavan’s lads must now look to pick up points when Roma visit Genoa next Sunday.
