Zenga: “The club has done a great job, now we must do the same in Turin”

You would expect Walter Zenga to be a happy man after Sampdoria’s excellent start to the campaign but the manager is refusing to rest on his laurels and is instead looking to prolong Doria’s good run at Torino tomorrow.

Speaking to the press at a news conference ahead of the Serie A Week 4 encounter, he said: “Every game is tough in Serie A but we’ve made a good start and we want to build on it. It’s hard to enjoy the good times in football because you’re always thinking about the next match. The league table isn’t settled yet so we need to try and extend this positive spell for as long as possible.”

The boss will have to make do without his two most reliable right-backs in Turin but he seemed unperturbed: “We have Pedro Pereira and he’s done well so far. He might not have a driving licence yet but that doesn’t mean he can’t play in Serie A. I have lots of options.”

The day after Eder Citadin Martins, Roberto Soriano and Lorenzo De Silvestri penned new deals, Zenga commended the club for the work done behind the scenes. “The club has done a great job and renewing those three contracts sends out a positive signal.

“When everyone fit we’ll really be able to give our fans something to cheer about. Once Cassano is 100% I hope to be able to play him alongside Correa, Eder and Muriel. All four of them together.”
