Bertolacci back in Genoa: “Samp is the only thing that matters now”

Andrea Bertolacci is ready to kick-start his career with Sampdoria, in the city where he spent the best years of his career.

It was at Genoa that the midfielder made a name for himself and earned his first Italy call-up. Now, after a spell at AC Milan and a frustrating campaign last year, the midfielder is back in Genoa wearing the most beautiful club shirt in the world, and raring to get going again.

“It feels great to be back here – I couldn’t help smiling yesterday when I arrived,” the 28-year-old revealed in an exclusive interview with Sampdoria’s Official Media.

“I’m from Rome but this city is like a second home for me. It’s an incredible feeling for me, like when I came here for the first time aged 20.

“I had lots of offers but Samp wanted me the most. I want to thank president Ferrero and the club for believing in me.”

Bertolacci went on to explain that spending most of last year on the sidelines has changed him.

“I’m a very different person now. It was hard not playing much but it helped me to mature.

“Now I want to start enjoying my football again at one of the best stadiums there is. I can’t forget the time I spent at Genoa but Sampdoria is the most important thing for me now. I want to repay everyone who has shown faith in me with my performances on the pitch.”
