Eataly charity event: Sampdoria and fans raise money for Genoa

On a special evening at Genoa’s Porto Antico, around 270 people – including Sampdoria players and fans – came together at Italian eatery Eataly to raise money for the city.

It was a special evening for two reasons. First of all, Massimo Ferrero and 10 Sampdoria players took on the roles of chefs, pizza-makers and waiters for the evening, at the service of those who paid for a table. Secondly, the proceeds of the evening will provide aid to the city, which was hit by the collapse of the Morandi bridge in August.

Francesco Farinetti, Eataly’s chief executive, said that the group of Italian marketplaces will double the proceeds from the evening, to support a project being led by Genoa’s city authorities. It was an evening that married food and football, for the sake of those in need.
