Euro U21: Andersen’s Denmark seal qualification, Kownacki through to play-offs

Joachim Andersen will be there. Dawid Kownacki still might.

That’s the lay of the land after the last round of European Under-21 Championship 2019 qualification matches, ahead of the finals in Italy and San Marino between 16 and 30 June.

Denmark’s 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands meant that they finished as Group 3 winners. Andersen played the full 90 minutes as goals from Bruun Larsen (47), Duelund (51) and Kristensen (90+1) saw the Danes finish on 32 points and seal their place in the finals.

Kownacki captained Poland to a 3-0 over Georgia, but his team will have to make do with a spot in the play-offs after they finished one point behind Denmark in second place. The play-offs are due to take place on 12 and 20 November. Jagielloo opened the scoring on 52 minutes, with Michalak adding a second on 74 minutes and Kownacki making it 3-0 at the death – his tenth goal of the qualifying campaign making him the competition’s top scorer.

Ognjen Stijepovic’s Montenegro finished Group 9 on a high with a 4-1 win over Kazakhstan (Uskokovic 20, Soltanov 26, Milosevic 53, Vukotic 73, Drincic 82, Milickovic 87). The result means Montenegro finish up on 11 points.
