Palombo: “Zenga and his staff have made a great impression, we can go far”

Sampdoria captain Angelo Palombo spoke to the press today to share his feelings a few days into the Blucerchiati’s preseason training camp: “I’ve learnt not to make snap judgements and instead to wait and see. The group is looking fantastic and with the new staff we have we can really go far. We have to pour in lots of effort and willingness, giving 100% for Samp and for the boss.”

The No. 17 poured cold water on suggestions he could take up a defensive position this season: “I’ve always available to the coach but I won’t play as a defender. Yesterday Cassani played as a centre-back, today it was my turn.”

Asked how he was finding life with Zenga and his coaches Cagni and Bellucci, Palombo stated: “We get on well. They’ve made a great impression and I wasn’t expecting them to be so humble and put themselves at our service so much. We started training with the ball right away and that’s exactly the right approach. Our legs are hurting a bit but it’s important to lay the foundations now.”

Palombo has seen all sorts over the course of his career, and couldn’t resist running the rule over some of his new team-mates: “Bonazzoli is only 18 but is already looking like a great striker. Then there’s Correa – we knew him already but I have to say he’s a great player. I can’t wait to play in Europe, we want to make a good start!”
