Blucerchiati visit Begeč cemetery to pay respects to Sampdoria legend Boškov

Sampdoria paid homage to a Blucerchiati legend of the highest order when they visited Vujadin Boškov’s grave in his hometown of Begeč today.

Ahead of this evening’s Europa League match, a Samp delegation consisting of sporting director Carlo Osti, goalkeeper Christian Puggioni and other club employees made the short trip from Novi Sad to the cemetery in Begeč where Doria’s most successful coach of all time now lies. There, together with Boškov’s grandson Borislav, Vojvodina president Zoran Šćepanović and other Serbian officials, a brief but heartfelt ceremony was held in memory of the man who played such an important role in the history of both clubs.

Boškov spent most of his playing career at Vojvodina before moving to Sampdoria for a two-year stint in the early 1960s. But it was as a coach that he left a truly indelible mark on Blucerchiati history. During a six-year spell between 1986 and 1992, he guided the club to no fewer than five trophies: two Coppa Italia crowns, a Cup Winners’ Cup, a Serie A title and an Italian Super Cup, before narrowly missing out on European Cup success in 1992.

After the ceremony in Begeč, the group visited Vojvodina’s training ground, a modern, functional facility whose construction was specifically requested by Boškov during his time as the club’s technical director – around half a century ago – and which now bears his name.
