Crunched: Sampdoria v Atalanta

Ahead of Sampdoria’s first Serie A home game of the season against Atalanta on Sunday, we bring you all the key stats on the fixture…

Sampdoria have won both of their two competitive fixtures in 2016/17 without conceding a single goal, following up on the 3-0 Coppa Italia victory over Bassano at Marassi with a 1-0 win away at Empoli on the opening day of the league season.

Samp hadn’t gone 180 minutes at the start of the season without conceding a goal since the 2007/08 campaign, when they secured two 1-0 wins over Cherno More Varna in the Intertoto Cup.

Atalanta have only scored in one of their last seven trips to Sampdoria. The Bergamo-based side’s last goal against Doria at Marassi was scored by Giuseppe De Luca in Atalanta’s 2-1 away win back in 2012.

Atalanta are currently on an 11-match scoring run, during which time they’ve found the net on 21 occasions. The last time Atalanta drew a blank was their 2-0 loss at Lazio on 12 March 2016.

Sunday will be the seventh time Marco Giampaolo and Gian Piero Gasperini have faced off in competitive fixtures. As things stand, the Samp manager’s record reads one win, one draw and four defeats – all of which came when Gasperini was the home coach. Interestingly, neither man’s side managed a goal at the other’s ground during those six games.
