Quagliarella: “We can only get better”

Fabio Quagliarella insists the best is yet to come after helping Sampdoria start the Serie A campaign with two wins on the bounce.

The veteran striker slotted home from the spot – his first goal since 12 March – as Doria came from a goal down to beat Atalanta 2-1 on Sunday night.

Speaking after notching his 10th career strike against the Bergamo-based side, Quagliarella admitted: “It was good to score the penalty. We did well to turn things around because it wasn’t easy after going behind to a side that play so well.”

Victory means the Blucerchiati head into the international break on maximum points but the 33-year-old knows Samp are far from the finished article.

“We’ve got lots of new players and it will take time for them to bed in, but we’re getting there little by little. I think we can only get better,” he added.

“Winning gives us even more belief in the work the coach is doing with us and we’ll be able to get a good two weeks of training in now.”
