Giampaolo: “Let’s hit reset and go again, we’re young and we’ll recover”
Marco Giampaolo has called for his side to put their defeat to Bologna behind them and move on.
Samp were beaten 2-0 at the Stadio Dall’Ara on Wednesday evening after goals from Verdi and Destro either side of half time.
“We have a young side and we’ll be able to hit reset and go again,” said the Doria boss after the game. “We stuck to our principles today but we were lacking that edge. I’d asked them to try and break our second-half scoring duck, but we didn’t manage it. Now we go again with even more enthusiasm than before.”
Giampaolo believes Samp were lacking incisiveness in their defeat to Roberto Donadoni’s men.
“We barely got in behind them tonight – we needed to be more clinical. We conceded 30 seconds before half time and it was uphill from then on. A couple of the players didn’t perform as well as they have done, plus we went down to ten men later on.
“Pereira hadn’t played a full game in months, so I was loath to make my final substitution. Praet has improved, he just needs to get into the game a bit more. I think Skriniar had a very good game and put his mistake at Marassi behind him. We need to improve, but we’re on the right track. I don’t know any other way. I’m not worried in the slightest.”
