Giampaolo ready for Palermo: “We play with 15 on our team thanks to our fans”

With the decidedly negative month of September now over, Marco Giampaolo is keen to turn the page and get back to winning ways in Serie A starting with Sunday’s match against Palermo.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Blucerchiati boss explained that despite the recent run of defeats, Sampdoria need to keep doing what they’re doing as they’ve already shown they can produce flowing football.

“The team have always maintained the same philosophy and all of our matches have been hard fought,” the boss said. “We must continue to play an attacking brand of football because if you play defensively you have less chance of winning. We’ve never taken a real beating in any of our matches; it’s just our morale that has taken a few knocks.”

Doria will be looking to pick themselves up in Marassi on Sunday, with the help of the supporters.

“We have 15 on our team for every game,” Giampaolo continued. “14 players plus our fans.

“I expect it to be a tough game but there are no easy games anyway. There’s not much to choose from between Palermo and the rest of the sides fighting to stay in Serie A. Even Juventus struggled to beat Palermo the other day.”

The coach has a few more options now thanks to the return of a number of players. “We have Sala and Barreto available again and Alvarez has got another game under his belt. Praet is getting better and he can come in handy.

“As I tell my players, we have 23 available for each game, 11 start and three come on. You can’t think about playing with just 11 players so it’s vital to have lots of different options on the bench.”
