Torreira on life in Genoa, mate and his Uruguay dream

Lucas Torreira has given an exclusive interview to Samp TV in which he talks about his home life, breaking into the Sampdoria team and his dream of one day playing for Uruguay.

After a successful campaign in Serie B with Pescara last season, the 20-year-old has quickly established himself as a key player for the Blucerchiati his term.

“Giampaolo showed great faith in me from the start and I’ve just tried to repay him on the pitch,” the midfielder explained.

Despite settling well in Genoa, where he lives with his mother and a friend, Lucas admits there are some things he misses about his homeland, even though he’s never without his favourite drink – mate.

“Mate is like a friend to us South Americans. It’s good for you and it helps you bond too.

“I do miss Uruguay because my father, my brothers and sisters and all my friends still live there. I miss having a kickabout with them and going out dancing.

“I have Spanish and Uruguayan citizenship but my dream is one day to play for Uruguay.”
