Football Data: key stats on Napoli v Sampdoria
With the Week 19 trip to Naples fast approaching, we’ve teamed up with Football Data to bring you the key stats on the clash at the Stadio San Paolo.
No win for Samp since 1998. Napoli have hosted Sampdoria on 60 occasions, with Sampdoria winning nine (most recently a 2-0 win on 19 April 1998), drawing 24 and losing 27. Samp have drawn five and lost seven of their 12 trips to Naples since their last win.
Manager head-to-head. There have been two previous meetings between Maurizio Sarri and Marco Giampaolo. As things stand, Giampaolo has never beaten Sarri, with one draw and one Sarri win so far. Both matches came when Giampaolo was in charge of Empoli in the 2015/16 season.
Scoring burden shared by a few. Sampdoria have had fewer different scorers than any other team in Serie A 2016/17, with just five players finding the back of the net (Edgar Barreto, Bruno Fernandes, Luis Muriel, Fabio Quagliarella and Patrik Schick).
Bench goals. The Blucerchiati have had goals scored by substitutes on six occasions this season, a league high they share with Roma. Bruno Fernandes and Patrik Schick have both chipped in with three goals apiece.
Super sub. Patrik Schick is one of only three players to have come off the bench 11 times this season. The other two are Udinese Stipe Perica and Atalanta’s Marco D’Alessandro.
Giampaolo’s turkey hangover. Marco Giampaolo has never won in his first match back after the Christmas break as a manager. In addition to one draw (Cremonese 0-0 Giana in 2015), the Samp boss has endured three defeats (Juventus 1-0 Siena in 2009, Roma 4-2 Catania in 2011 and Empoi 0-1 Inter in 2016).
