Giampaolo makes it three: “We played with a swagger and deserved the win”
Marco Giampaolo’s Sampdoria side have won three league matches in a row for the first time this season. Naturally though, they only want that record to last for another week. “We deserved the three points because of our approach,” said Marco Giampaolo post-match. “The team never got flustered even after we fell behind – we showed the right mentality to stay in the game.”
The Blucerchiati hogged ball possession and dominated territory, before finally being rewarded: “We played very attacking football,” continued the Blucerchiati chief. “Our attacking midfielders were playing as forwards and our midfielders as attacking midfielders. We implemented what we’d talked about in the dressing room. It was a rock ‘n’ roll performance – we played with a swing in our step.”
Doria might have been fortunate with the award of the penalty: “I won’t comment on the big decisions,” concluded Giampaolo. “I’ve never told my players, nor will I, that we lost due to the referee so I don’t want to talk about the officials now. I understand why Bologna are feeling hard done by – they saw a chance to take home three points in the midst of a tough spell – but this victory is anything but smash and grab. On the contrary, we played like a great side, even if we’re not quite there yet.”
