Quagliarella feeling revived: “I’ve woken up from a nightmare; I won’t forget this goal”

Fabio Quagliarella’s goal today was the perfect tonic to the veteran striker’s personal problems that have emerged in recent weeks.

“An episode has come to an end that became a nightmare for me,” Quagliarella revealed during his post-match interview in relation to the arrest of his stalker. “A huge weight has been taken off my shoulders. He was the reason I left Napoli. I was doing fine there but I was affected by this nightmare: I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Neither I nor my family could leave the home. I’d like to thank the authorities for establishing the truth.”

Now onto footballing matters, Quagliarella was delighted with his goal this afternoon against Cagliari, a game in which he was the stand-in captain.

“I won’t forget that feeling,” Sampdoria’s No.27 said. “Scoring in front of the Gradinata Sud is wonderful. It’s a shame we didn’t win, that would have been the icing on the cake, but we’re happy as it is.”

Quagliarella concluded his interview by speaking about his role in the squad and the signs of collective development being shown by this young team.

“I know I have to give a hand to the young guys, help them develop like a parent. They’ve got their careers in front of them and they’re showing improvements.”
