In-form Fernandes: “Now let’s win another derby”

Bruno Fernandes has enjoyed a good season so far but he really turned it on against Pescara, scoring the opener before laying on two assists.

Yet rather than dwell on his own performance in helping Samp extend their unbeaten run to six games, the Portuguese was quick to shift the attention to the next match – the one that really counts.

“It was important to win today to keep our run going,” the Blucerchiati No.10 grinned. “We’re growing in confidence and belief with each passing game.”

Which of course is exactly what you want going into the Genoa derby, which Bruno clearly wants to win as much as anyone.

“You don’t play derbies, you win them. We must win next Saturday for ourselves and for these amazing fans.”

Two thirds of the way through the season, the 22-year-old also reflected on the year thus far – on both a personal and a team level.

“I think I’ve had a decent season. I’ve had lots of game time. With the goal and my performance today I can look forward even more optimistically.

“We’re a young side but we’re well equipped and we know we can all step up another gear.”
