Quagliarella calls on team to bounce back after Lazio loss

Fabio Quagliarella, who captained Sampdoria in their heavy defeat away at Lazio, said after the game that the manner of the loss was out of character.

“It hurts to lose in this way; it’s not like Sampdoria to concede seven goals,” he said.

“Nothing went right for us today. The fault is entirely our own – not that of the manager. We’re the guys that go out onto the pitch so it’s us that should apologise to the fans for this match. We need to go again and look forward.

“If we’re to learn a lesson from this defeat, it’s that we need to strengthen ahead of next season. As captain, I’m even more disappointed by the result. We need to turn the page next Sunday and try to end what has been a good season as well as we can.”

When asked about his scoring tally for the season, which moved into double figures in the match against Lazio, the striker said: “I don’t feel like smiling today, but it’s nice.”
