Football Data: Sampdoria v Napoli stats

Italy’s leading football statistics agency gives us the lowdown on Sampdoria’s last match of the 2016/17 season against Napoli.

Just eight scorers for Samp

No Serie A team has had fewer names on the score sheet than Sampdoria this season. All of the Blucerchiati’s league goals have been scored by just eight players: Alvarez, Barreto, Bruno Fernandes, Linetty, Muriel, Praet, Quagliarella and Schick.

When Samp see red…

Sampdoria have received the joint most red cards in the 2016/17 season: eight, the same number as Genoa.

Record-breaking season for Napoli

Whatever happens in the final game of the season, 2016/17 will be a record-breaking campaign for Napoli. Maurizio Sarri’s side have lost fewer games (four) and scored more goals (90) than any other Serie A side. They have recorded the most goals of all teams in the first 30 minutes of the second half (23 between the 46th and 60th minutes; 19 between the 61st and 75th minutes).

Napoli had never obtained 83 points or scored 90 goals in a single league season before now. They have also equalled their club record of 25 wins (set last year).

No team has scored at least 90 goals in a Serie A campaign since 1959/60, when Juventus finished the year with a tally of 92.

Dries Mertens has netted 27 goals in 2016/17 – a personal record and the highest total ever managed by a Belgian player in Serie A.

Napoli unbeaten away since October. 29 points in last 11 games

Napoli have won nine and drawn two of their last 11 matches. Their last defeat was a 2-0 home reverse against Atalanta, while they haven’t lost away from Naples since Juventus 2-1 Napoli on 29 October 2016.

Giampaolo yet to beat Sarri

Marco Giampaolo is seeking his first win against Maurizio Sarri in their fourth meeting as coaches. The current Napoli boss has won two of their previous match-ups with the third finishing all square. Both sides have scored in all three games: four goals for Giampaolo’s teams and nine for Sarri’s.
