Samp slip to heavy Swansea defeat in final pre-season friendly
Sampdoria’s pre-season preparations ended with a humbling 4-0 defeat at the hands of Swansea in Wales.
It was clearly a step backwards performance-wise by Marco Giampaolo’s men following their impressive display against Manchester United in Dublin, but nonetheless useful for getting minutes in legs ahead of next weekend’s opening Coppa Italia fixture.
The Swans took the lead through Leroy Fer’s header towards the end of the first half then doubled their advantage moments after the restart due to Ricky Alvarez’s unfortunate backpass.
The third came via Tammy Abraham’s arm – not seen by the officials – then Federico Fernandez headed in fourth.
The Blucerchiati will now return to Italy and resume training in Bogliasco on Tuesday ahead of their Coppa Italia third round clash against Vicenza or Foggia.
