Giampaolo expects to see right Samp attitude in Florence
Marco Giampaolo knows Sampdoria are in for a tough test when they travel to the Stadio Franchi on Sunday evening but insists that with the right mentality his team can come away with a good result.
The Blucerchiati are set to take on Fiorentina in what will be their first away game of the season, looking to build on their Coppa Italia victory against Foggia and last week’s comeback win over Benevento.
“We’re expecting a very tricky match but winning our league opener did us a lot of good,” the boss told reporters at a press conference on Saturday. “I think if we approach the match the right way we can go there and do well.”
“I’ve never considered changing the pecking order or line-up based on the type of game we have to play. I don’t change for the sake of changing. I value the work we do and try to instil the right mentality in my team regardless of whether we’re playing at home or away.”
Fiorentina, who have brought in a flux of new players over the summer after losing some of their biggest names, are still bedding in under new coach Stefano Pioli and Giampaolo admitted this could work to Sampdoria’s advantage.
“Fiorentina are a much changed side but they still have a lot of individual talent. I think they’re yet to find their identity as a team and hopefully they won’t quite be there yet when we play them.”
