Zapata hits hat-trick as Samp put 10 past Baiardo in friendly

Duvan Zapata notched a hat-trick on his first appearance in a Sampdoria shirt as Marco Giampaolo’s men beat local side Baiardo 10-0 in a training-ground friendly on Saturday.

Ricky Alvarez also found the net three times while Gianluca Caprari got two and Valerio Verre and Gaston Ramirez completed the scoring.

Giampaolo threw new signings Zapata and Ivan Strinic straight in the mix and the Colombian took less than 15 minutes to get off the mark as he turned in the loose ball from close range after the keeper had parried.

Zapata then turned provider as he teed up Alvarez in the centre of the box for the second on 27 minutes.

Four minutes later the Argentine made it a brace, this time played in by Caprari, who got his own name on the score sheet shortly afterwards courtesy of Leo Capezzi’s gorgeous dinked pass.

The Italian forward then added his second of the game, cheekily lifting the ball over the onrushing keeper before depositing into the empty net.

And there was still time before the break for Verre to make it 6-0 with a long-range effort.

Caprari made way for Ramirez during the interval with Alvarez pushed forward as a result, and within two minutes the Argentine had completed his hat-trick.

On another day he might have had five but he was twice denied by the woodwork while Jacopo Sala also hit the frame of the goal.

Zapata did find the net again midway through the half when Sala scooped a pass onto his head and the striker swivelled to volley home as it dropped.

The former Udinese man then rounded the keeper to make it 9-0 before Ramirez wrapped up the scoring with a real peach of a goal, curling into the top corner from out wide.

Ten goals and a decent runout help to keep the engines ticking over but Sampdoria know they will face a much sterner test when Roma visit Marassi next Saturday.
