Giampaolo “Let’s find top gear again”

Marco Giampaolo has urged his team to find their stride again with the help of the Marassi faithful when they host Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.

Samp have struggled for results since beating Juventus, with luck going against them against Lazio and Cagliari and a disappointing cup exit in midweek.

Now the Blucerchiati have the chance to get back to winning ways against Sassuolo in a fixture that brings back memories of last season’s remarkable turnaround from 0-2 to 3-2 in the last six minutes.

“Yes, we pulled off an incredible feat last season thanks to the chemistry between the team and the fans,” the coach recalled during a media conference on the eve of the game. “They’re our 12th man but we need to earn their support by playing with the right attitude each and every time we step out there.

“We have to find top gear again. We can’t afford to ease off in games – we must play to the best of our ability at all times and try to keep the tempo high throughout. We must be energetic and attack-minded. If we want to beat Sassuolo, we’re going to need a real Samp performance.”

Indeed, Sassuolo are on a high after securing a crucial victory over Crotone in a relegation six-pointer last week.

“Iachini’s side deserve respect,” Giampaolo continued.. “They’ve picked up more points on the road than they have at home and they’re very strong up front so we must be wary of them.”
