Quagliarella makes history: “Massive win and delighted about the record”

Fabio Quagliarella continues to defy the age on his passport, as his brace against SPAL today ensured another entry beside his name in the Serie A record books.

The veteran striker has now scored against all 20 clubs in Italy’s top flight and is just one shy of equalling his best-ever goals haul for a season, with over half of the games left to play.

“Today’s win was massive,” Quagliarella began after the game, “and we’ve been trying to get it for a while. It was very hard to break the deadlock and eventually it took a penalty to do so. We wanted to get back to winning ways more than anything else.”

The No.27 also admitted he was feeling the nerves before his game-winning penalty kick in additional time.

“I couldn’t mess it up in front of the Sud. As I ran towards the ball, the goal seemed to get smaller, but I didn’t let that bother me. Huge credit for my second goal should go to Kownacki, whose assist was top class.

“[The record] is very satisfying,” concluded Fabio, who has now scored 120 goals in Serie A, “it means I’ve left a little mark in the history books and it’s one of those things that cannot help but make you happy.”
