No excuses for loss in crucial Sassuolo clash, says Torreira

After a difficult loss away to Sassuolo, which more or less ends Doria’s dream of European football next season, Lucas Torreira commented: “This was a crucial game and it did not go as we wanted.

“They did well to close down our passing lanes – this opposition knows us well. The ball didn’t roll too well today because the pitch was dry, so there were lots of errors. But we’re not looking to make excuses.

“I’m not sure what happens to us when we go away from home. I know there are only two games left, but we want to give everything, for ourselves and for the fans. We want to finish the season well – we’ve worked a great deal and want to win games.

“As for the Europa League, it would be a huge achievement to qualify, but it’s a tough ask. It doesn’t hurt for us to dream, though.”

The midfielder was full of gratitude to his team-mates and coach, when asked about his personal development: “I’m 22 years old and I can improve. I think I’ve had a positive year.”
