Giampaolo begins to sum up campaign: “Positive season, the ambition is to improve”

Marco Giampaolo is refusing to let the disappointment of missing out on the European dream overshadow all the good things to come out of this season.

“It’s been a positive campaign,” the coach commented after tonight’s match. “Of course, there have been ups and downs, but the important thing is that there’s always been the ambition to get better from myself, the team and the club.”

It’s been a season of much progress according to Marco Giampaolo, who refutes the idea that Samp weren’t sufficiently motivated for the visit of Napoli.

“We were motivated because the race for seventh place wasn’t over yet,” Giampaolo continued. “We gave a honest performance. Unfortunately, we came into this game seriously lacking personnel in attack. Zapata was just put down as a name in the squad, Quagliarella was ruled out.”

The Blucerchiati fans have always been a credit to the club, but tonight’s scenes weren’t nice to see.

“The president took on the responsibility himself, came down from the stand and went over to the Gradinata to stop these chants. The decision underlines the clear position of the club.”

Finally, Giampaolo commented on the rumours linking him to Napoli.

“It’s nice to be associated with a club like this,” he concluded, “but I haven’t been contacted by anyone. I watch Napoli purely as a spectator.”
