Torreira comes on, Uruguay win at the death against Egypt

Lucas Torreira entered the fray on 87 minutes and the winning goal came in the 89th. His first appearance at a World Cup, in Uruguay’s clash with Egypt, could not have gone much better.

The Group A clash was attack against defence for much of proceedings, and it looked as though the Egyptian rear-guard might manage to hold out for a draw in Yekaterinburg.

The Samp midfielder was brought on by manager Oscar Tabarez, replacing Matias Vecino, and barely two minutes later the winning goal game, as Jose Gimenez headed home to secure a 1-0 win.

Uruguay’s next game is against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday 20 June in Rostov, which kicks off at 17:00 CEST.
