Russia 2018: Poland bow out with a win
Poland’s World Cup campaign came to an end with a 1-0 win over Japan. Of the three Sampdoria players in the squad – Bartosz Bereszynski, Dawid Kownacki and Karol Linetty – only the defender was involved for the duration in Volgograd.
The winning goal arrived just before the hour mark, as Jan Bednarek headed into the net after a free kick. For Japan the defeat did not change much, as they progressed ahead of Senegal – who lost to group winners Colombia – due to their superior fair-play record.
