Quagliarella, Jankto and Defrel on target in friendly win over Parma

Gregoire Defrel notched a debut goal as Sampdoria concluded the Italian leg of their pre-season preparations with a 3-1 friendly win against Parma at Trento’s Stadio Briamasco on Saturday.

The French forward, who only completed his move to the club the day before, rounded off the scoring in the 93rd minute after first-half strikes from Fabio Quagliarella and Jakub Jankto.

Quagliarella broke the deadlock midway through the opening period when Nicola Murru made hay down the left flank and sent the delivery towards the back post, where the captain was on hand to catch it sweetly on the volley and make it 1-0.

The second came on the stroke of half time when Jankto’s cross-shot from the left found its way into the opposite top corner.

Marco Giampaolo shuffled his pack during the interval making five changes, while his opposite number Roberto D’Aversa responded with four of his own.

Former Samp man Antonino Barilla almost reduced the arrears seven minutes after the restart but saw his effort come off the post.

The relative monotony of the second half was broken up mostly by substitutions until Yves Baraye struck with four minutes of normal time remaining.

That appeared to be the end of it but Defrel had other ideas as he collected a low cross from fellow substitute Gaston Ramirez and slotted home to wrap up a 3-1 victory.

Doria thus ended their three-week training camp with a third friendly win from four games as attentions turn to next week’s trip to England, with Fulham and Watford on the agenda.
