Giampaolo demands improvement out of possession

Marco Giampaolo gave a blunt assessment following a disappointing 3-2 defeat away at Milan on Sunday night, despite some positive aspects to his team’s display.

“If you want to make that step up in quality, you can’t lose this type of game,” he said.

“With respect to Milan, who are a great side, we lost the game because we were unable to keep them under pressure with our use of the ball.

“Given the way we play, we need to strive to be a big team. When we look over the game, we need to do so while considering ourselves to be a quality side. We shouldn’t be settling for plaudits.

“In possession, I saw some of the best play you can see in this league. But out of possession, we were playing more as individuals than collectively. So that’s something I’m not happy with this evening.

“We need to be switched on and to have a keen eye on every single detail. We’re disappointed after 95 minutes like that – we deserved more,” he concluded.
