Giampaolo bemoans poor luck: “Performances like this deserve points”

“We should never have lost that game based on the way we played.”

Marco Giampaolo was understandably frustrated in his post-match interview, for two reasons: firstly, Sampdoria did not deserve to come away from the San Siro empty-handed this evening and secondly, the referee missed a foul in the build-up to Inter’s second goal.

“There was a clear foul on [Albin] Ekdal before the goal for 2-1,” the coach said. “A push that forced us to put the ball out for a corner, so I’m really angry about that incident.”

“You can’t be satisfied if you don’t take the points home after a performance like this,” Giampaolo continued through gritted teeth. “We were missing purpose, a clinical attitude and guile. You have to stay focused when you play here. Even the ballboys here know their roles, so you have to be ready. These are little things, details that we need to improve.

“I’m upset for the team: we played a great game but got no points,” the coach concluded. “I don’t have anything to reproach my team for, other than when you perform like this you have to get the points.”
