Audero fails to keep Lazio out despite heroics: “We need to turn the page”

A series of fine saves from Emil Audero were not enough to help Sampdoria avoid defeat in their first match of the new campaign. Speaking after the 3-0 defeat at home to Lazio, the Doria keeper commented: “It was a convincing win for them. We gave them too much: too much space, opportunities to counterattack, and to shoot from distance. We weren’t able to worry them enough, which was a shame.”

He continued: “We’ve changed coach. This is a different way of playing and we’ll need to time to take on his ideas. Let’s hope we can do it as soon as possible. We were up against a good Lazio side and failed to perform. We didn’t do well in defence. In situations like this, you need to cast the loss aside and go again.”
