Bertolacci: “This is just a starting point, for me and the team”

Andrea Bertolacci made a welcome return to Serie A action on Sunday, turning in an excellent performance in Sampdoria’s 0-0 draw with Roma.

Speaking after the game he said: “I really must say thank you today, because I didn’t expect this kind of return. I want to be judged on what I do on the field. I hope this is the first sign of a good run.

“I really want to repay the faith shown in me and to help this group. I’ve missed Serie A football. It hasn’t been easy watching on from a distance. I knew that when my time came, I’d not let the opportunity pass me by. This is just a starting point, for me and the team.

“This spirit, if we keep our heads down and work hard, can help us bounce back.”
