Ranieri: “Lazio too good but we didn’t play as a team”

Claudio Ranieri admitted that Lazio were simply on a different level to his side after a rough experience at the Olimpico.

“They were too good for us,” the coach rued following Saturday’s 5-1 defeat. “The gulf between the two teams was quite clear but it was without doubt the worst Sampdoria performance since I’ve been here. I’m not making excuses – full credit to Lazio but we didn’t play as a team today.

“It will be easier to get going again after a game like this because the lads will be determined to bounce back. We’re still down in the quagmire and we must have the bit between our teeth at all times.”

Asked about possible transfers, Ranieri explained: “If a striker were to leave, someone better would have to come in. I have great faith in my four strikers and I don’t want any of them to leave. The club know that my only request is two right-footed centre-backs because I have three left-footed ones.”
