Torregrossa: “Incredible debut, amazing feeling to score like that”

It was as if he’d written the script.

Ernesto Torregrossa enjoyed a dream debut on Saturday as he crashed home a towering header to secure a 2-1 win over Udinese for Sampdoria – and the new signing was understandably elated when we caught up with him at full time.

“I hope this is just the beginning of my new adventure, said the Samp No.9. “I want to help the coach and the team. [Claudio] Ranieri just told me to get on and play my game. I guess it worked out! I’d spoken to [Tommaso] Augello in the week and told him to give me that ball, and he did. He did very well.”

Torregrossa went on to speak about his aspirations after joining Sampdoria.

“I’m in Serie A and I want to take my chance,” he said. “It’s important to do your time in Serie B and Serie C – you have to have the right hunger and mentality and keep believing. It was an amazing feeling tonight. I’m pleased to have contributed to the win. We showed character. My team-mates have made me feel very welcome and that’s been key to me making the start I have.”
