Audero – A goalkeeper for the future

Emil Audero has just signed a new contract with Sampdoria which is set to run until 2026. The new deal embodies the mutual confidence and belief between the young goalkeeper and the club, with the shotstopper currently enjoying his third season with the Blucerchiati. Born on the Indonesian island of Lombak, Audero moved to Italy, his mother’s homeland, at a young age and grew up in Cumiano, a small village near Turin, where none other than Juventus handed him his Serie A debut on 27 May 2017 at Bologna’s Dall’Ara. The very same venue was where the goalkeeper made his 100th top-flight appearance on Sunday to complete his century.

The 24-year-old, who is having a wonderful season, immediately caught the eye with his acrobatic performances, which also earned him a call-up to the Italy U21 squad and led to his participation in the European Championships held in Italy. Now it is a matter of waiting for his chance with the senior national team, with everyone at the club hoping that EURO 2020 may be his big break. Despite his young age, Audero has already reached a century of appearances for Doria, becoming the youngest ever player to do so, dislodging the legendary Gianluca Pagliuca, who was previously the youngest goalkeeper to feature in the prestigious Derby della Lanterna.

We have already spoken about the past, we know the present, but we can also be sure that with Audero, the club’s future is in safe hands.
