Ranieri reiterates personal and team desire ahead of Verona clash

Claudio Ranieri has reaffirmed his desire to remain at the club following recent rumours about his future.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s match against Verona, the boss began: “I’d like to clear up a few things as there have been some rumours flying around about my position and my contract.

“First of all, I’m very happy here in Genoa at Sampdoria. I get on with the players, the club and everyone. Next week I have a meeting with the president to talk about it, so we just have to wait and see, but I have every intention of staying here and being successful, and ideally finishing the season strongly.”

Verona is the first of Sampdoria’s final eight games as they look to reach the coach’s target of 52 points.

“We have three important matches in the next week so I’ll be making full use of my squad, based on our opponents and how we’re looking,” the boss continued.

“Verona have been through a so-so spell in which they haven’t had much luck but they’re gritty, determined and have a direct style of play so I’m expecting a battle. They’ll be looking to win, but so are we.”
