D’Aversa: “Let’s try to find Napoli’s weaknesses”

Roberto D’Aversa admitted that his Sampdoria side face a stern test when Napoli visit the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Thursday – but insisted that his team could find the weaknesses in Luciano Spalletti’s high-flying Azzurri.

“Spalletti is doing a great job,” said D’Aversa, speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday. “They have the best defensive record and they’ve had more shots than any other team this season. It might seem like they don’t have any weaknesses, but it will be a challenge for us to try to identify any shortcomings in their game. We know we can’t make mistakes, but we also need to bring intensity and determination.”

Sampdoria come into the game off the back of the 3-0 win at Empoli, and D’Aversa believes his side will draw confidence from that result.

“That first win gave us a boost but looking ahead to Thursday’s game I want to focus on the areas we can improve,” he said. “We didn’t make the best start, and even after we went ahead we wasted several chances to score – that would have enabled us to wrap the match up. We can’t afford to do that against top teams like Napoli. We need to be more focused and clinical and make sure we take full advantage of the few chances that come our way.”
