Giampaolo looks ahead to Atalanta: “We want to kick off on the front foot”

After a winning start to the season in the Coppa Italia, the league campaign is set to get under way on Saturday. The standard is certainly increasing, with Atalanta heading to Marassi following the cup tie with Serie B outfit Reggina.

Marco Giampaolo knows that a big performance will be needed on Saturday against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

“The squad has been working hard so far,” stated the boss in a press conference. “It’s a very important fixture against Atalanta, who are a tough team to play against beyond the unknown quantities that come into play in the first game.”

Born on 12 August 1946 from the union between Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria, the club is celebrating its 76^th birthday today.

“August is the month for the biggest birthdays: Sampdoria and me,” joked the boss. “Of course, we want to turn in a top performance against Atalanta, try to get a result and kick off the season on the front foot to give everyone something to shout about and celebrate along with our fans.”
