Samp Women lose friendly 2-1 at home to Milan

Sampdoria Women were narrowly beaten 2-1 by AC Milan at the 3 Campanili in Bogliasco in the team’s opening pre-season friendly ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Rossonere raced into a 2-0 lead early in the first half thanks to a brace by Lindsey Thomas in the 8th and 21st minutes. The Blucerchiate responded well and tried to get straight back into the contest.

The goal to cut the arrears only came at the start of the second half when new signing Kelly Gago finished off a flowing move after a pinpoint assist by Sara Baldi on 50 minutes.

Antonio Cincotta’s side did a good job of closing down the spaces and driving forward, but the equaliser did not materialise in the end.

Milan ran out 2-1 winners in what was a good test for the Samp players ahead of the opener in Serie A Femminile TIM in three weeks’ time.
