Phenomenal Samp put three past Atalanta in Bergamo

Sampdoria produced a stunning display to beat Atalanta 3-1 in their own back yard on Saturday afternoon, claiming back-to-back Champions League scalps after Lazio and a third straight Serie A win.

Having caused Gian Piero Gasperini’s side plenty of problems last season yet only earned a point for their efforts, this time Claudio Ranieri’s men went one better with a brilliant all-round performance.

Fabio Quagliarella drew first blood to establish himself as Serie A’s 15th-highest all-time scorer, Morten Thorsby doubled the lead on the hour mark with a deft header then – after Duvan Zapata had halved the arrears – Jakub Jankto put the game to bed late on.
