Primavera: Pompetti fires Samp to away win over Chievo

Sampdoria Primavera got off the mark for the season with a 1-0 win away at Chievo Verona on Sunday. The winning goal was scored by Marco Pompetti midway through the second half, with the strike proving enough to secure all three points for the young Blucerchiati side.

After a quiet opening 15 minutes, Samp had the first chance of the match as Yayi Mpie saw his shot blocked by Leggero. Down the other end, Pavlev sent in a fine cross only for Rovaglia to fail to keep his header on target. Doria responded with efforts from Ercolano, Pompetti and Rocha, to no avail. Chievo had a wonderful chance to take the lead on the stroke of half time, but Leggero was left shaking his hand as Pastor blocked on the line with Raspa beaten.

Doria started the better in the second half, but a mixture of imprecision and misfortune meant the scores remained goalless. That changed on 71 minutes, when Pompetti drove into the box and lashed home inside the near post to give Samp a deserved 1-0 lead which Cottafava’s men showed good composure to protect for the remainder of the game.
