Quagliarella grateful for fan reception after all-round attacking display

The incomparable Fabio Quagliarella was at it again on Saturday night. He scored the opener of Sampdoria’s 5-0 over Frosinone with his 130th Serie A goal and 50th for Doria and was applauded off the pitch by both the home and away support. The Blucerchiati forward is the highest-scoring of Serie A’s current players and ranks 39th on the all-time goalscoring chart.

When asked after the match about the reception he received, Quagliarella said: “Thank you. I will remember that forever. You don’t often get that kind of treatment from opposing fans when you’re winning 3-0.”

The forward was also surprised to hear when speaking to Sky that he’s been scoring goals for 14 seasons.

“I like producing good play – assists, like tonight, and goals of course. I live to score goals. I’m no goal poacher though, one who scores 20 per season. I’m more about helping the team and my fellow attackers.

“I like to provide for all those around me, all my team-mates – the stats say that players who play alongside me get goals. I hope Gregoire Defrel scores as many as possible.

“We’ve got another battle on our hands on Wednesday. We know what we want to get from that contest.”
